Colonial and Indian Exhibition.
THE ADORNMENT OF THE COURTS. From some official notes relative to the decorations in the Colonial and Indian Exhibition, we learn that New South Wales is painted in an arrangement of blue-grey and carmine, with a frieze of birds and flowers ; while the neighbouring court of Queensland has walls of Frenchgrey and salmon colour, with red and ! yellow stripes on the ribs of the roof. In i Western Australia, the typical black swan ' (fainilar to every schoolboy who collects ; stamps), is everywhere apparent on a prim- ! rose ground. !New Zealand is bright with j yellow, vermilion and blue ; and the West j Indian Gallery is painted in pale blue-grey J and buff, with a dull red dado. Thepredomi- : nating colour in the Maltese Court is • Indian red, which will harmonise well with I the sage green of Cyprus ; the latter court will have a frieze of lotus flower and other designs taken from Cypriote pottery. The , Cape Court is being harmoniously treated j in sage green, dull red, and drab, while near by the West African section stands out in black and yellow stripes heightened by red. Compared with some of the other courts, the Canadian decoration appears sombre in tone. Along the ribs runs a conventional design of foliage in dull green ; and the dado is surmounted by a freize of a garland connecting medallion heads of Greek deitieß. In India the decoration of the roof is left to the thousand banners, containing eighteen varieties, which are suspended from it ; but Ceylon is painted yellow, green, and red.
