Attempted Suicide.
At 2 o'clock this afternoon a woman, whose name ha 3 not yet ' been ascertained, attempted to commit suicide "by throwing herßelf from the railings of Manchester street bridge into the stream below. She was observed by Mr Lavery, who keeps a store close by, and he, with commendable courage, jumped into the river, which ia deep at this park, and brought her safely to the bank. The woman appeared to be wandering in her mind, and was very sick. Dr RusseH attended her immediately, and saw to her removal home. From further inquiries it appears that the woman's name is Elizabeth Clinker, a servant employed at J. Anderson's boird-in*-house, Armagh street. She was arrested by Cod stable Koster on a charge of attempting to commit suicide. Mr Anderson says that the>woman's mind has been troubled by the death of a child recently. There appears to be little dcubt, however, that she has been drinking. She said at first that she jumped into the river to rescue a child that was drowning, but almost immediately added that she knew it was a foolish idea of hers to attempt to drown herself.
