An Amusing Libel Case.

David Curie, proprietor of the Guardian (erening paper), has been committed for trial on five charges of libel, on the information of Leonard Northcroft, one of the proprietors .of the West Coast Times. The charges are all of a similar nature, and allege that defendant's paper compared informant to Snap, of the firm of Quirk, Gammon and Snap, and to Nick Bottom, in | Shakebpeare'3playof " Midsummer Night's ; Dream." Informant ie Deputy-Assignee j in Bankruptcy : also, Crovrn Land Board G'ommiasioner, editor and one of the proprietors of the West Coast Times. The Magistrate, in committing, said he thought two of the informations showed libel, but the others were weak ; however, he would commit on all charges. Bail was allowed— defendant .£IOO, and two sureties of JESO each. Mr Bevan, M.H.2., is one of the , informant's partners, the other is Mr Michael. Pollock.
