SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

j Annual Elections. I HEATHCOTE VALLEY. At the annual meeting there were 16 householders present. Mr W. Perkins was voted to the chair, and read the annual report, giving details of the expenditure, progress, and attendance at the school, and the various improvements carried out during the past year, which had been one of active progress, on behalf of the Committee, they having held 24 meetings, with an average attendance of five members at each, and their business had been greatly facilitated by the kindness received at the hands of the Board of Education, and its Secretary, Mr Veel. The report was adopted, and the following elected a new Committee: — Messrs W. Perkins, J. Weir, W. M'Dowell, H. Dixon, S. A. Collins, E. G. Sykes, and F. W. Sandford. Messrs Perkins and Weir were unanimously re-elected Chairman and Secretary respectively for the new Committee. AMBERLEY. At the annual meeting of householders, about thirty persons were present. Mr MAdam, che Chairman of the retiring Committee, presided. The election of a new Committee resulted in the return of Messrs J. M'Lean, A. Greig, E. MAdam, J. Chamberlain, G. Crampton, J. B. Hunter, and J. Armstrong. At the subsequent meeting Mr Robert MAdam was re-elected Chairman. PREBBLETON. The annual meeting of householders was presided over by the Rev R. J. Porter. The statement of accounts for the past year (duly audited) was adopted. It showed a credit balance of JGII 163 lid in the hands of the Committee. The Chairman then made a statement as to the working of the school and the improvements during the last year. The Inspector's report showed that 78 per cent of passes had been obtained. The repairs and improvements effected were at the school and master's house, which were before in a dilapidated state. A householder enquired about the contract for painting. The Chairman stated that the Committee had nothing to do with the letting of the contract. The Board of Education had authorised the Committee to call for tenders. The tenders were forwarded to the Board sealed ; the Board accepted the tender of the man who had done the painting. However, if the work had been done to the satisfaction of the Board he must say that it was not to the satisfaction of the Committee. They had no pawer to move in the matter, however. The path from the school, he added, had been made and gravelled. The underwood from the trees around the school grounds had been cut and cleared away, and other minor improvements had been done , which left the school in a very satisfactory state. They had had a change of school teachers. Mrs Prebble had resigned, and left them no option bnt to receive her resignation, with regret, and appoint, in her place, Miss Lowe, who was a very efficient teacher, and giving every satisfaction. The library accounts wei*e then read, and passed, as was a vote of thanks to the school teachers. A special vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs Prebble for her services during the yeara of her teaching, and the Chairman was requested to convey the same to her. The following gentlemen were elected a new Committee — Rev R. J. Porter, Messrs J. N. Tosswill, J. Anderson, W. Mullis, J. Hodgen, R. Cook, and J. M'Clintock. The Rev R. J. Porter was re-elected Chairman. : VIEW HILL. i The meeting was well attended. The Chairman of the outgoing Committee presided, and urged on those present the necessity of strictly enforcing the compulsory clause of the Education Act. The following were elected to serve on the new Committee : — Mesßrs Pole, Harie, H. Peary, Murfitt, Cleeve, Marshall, and T. Peary. ; Mr J. P. Pole was elected Chairman. SPRINGFIELD. The meeting to elect a new Committee was largely attended, and a good deal more : enthusiasm was displayed than at any ' meeting of the kind for some years. It ] transpired that the old Committee had : fiont in their resignations to the Board of Education, and the retiring Chairman did : not submit a statement of accounts to the j meeting. j Mr James Cunningham was voted to the chair, and the following vere elected a new Committee :— Messrs Robert Colthart, T. Kane, James Cunningham, Henry Driver, W. O'Shaughnessy, T. Barker, and T. Aitkinann. Mr Colthart was elected Chairman, and it was resoled that the Chairman cominuni<:ate with the Board, asking them to inquire into tho financial position of the school, aa in the event of there having been any irregular expenditure, the present Committee would decline all responsibility m connection therewith. It was resolved to bring under the notice of the Board the condition of the master's dwelling-house.

KOWAI BUSH. A largely attended meeting was lield at the f-ohoolrooin, Kowai Bush. Mr G. F. Hunt, Chairman, placed a statement of the accounts before the ir.< etincr, showing a balance to credit of £8. The following were elected for the enduing year : — Messrs ,T. Pope, F. Benhain, H. Wallis, G. F. Hunt, W. Eodger3, J. Evans, and A. Kae. Mr F. Benhain was elected Chairman. ,
