Dbtjkkinnisß. — An old woman, who had been locked up since Saturday, was cautioned and discharged. — Two men, for first offences, were fined 5s each, or twenty- i four hours.— William Kelly, who had resisted and assaulted a constable in addition to being drunk, was fined 15b and |8s expenses; in default, forty-eight hours' imprisonment. — A first offender for drunkenness was remanded for seven days' medical treatment. AiiLzeiD Talbi Pktbnceb.— The adjourned case against Alexander Mitchell, accused of obtaining 9a from J. M. Walker by means of a valueless cheque, was called on. Mr Joyce (for the accused) Baid his witness had not arrived. Mr Ollivier suggested that the case had better stand over till after the charges of forgery which had been preferred against the accused had been dealt with by the Supreme Court. Ultimately it was agreed that the case should be postponed till Saturday next. (Before B. Beetham, Esq.) CIVIL CASES. Di7AULTB, &c. — Judgment was given for plaintiff, by default, in each of the following cases for the amount stated with coste. Twentyman and Cousin, v. Dawson, claim £33 9s fid ; O'Day v. Smith, claim £88 6s 4d. The case of Jeffree v. Bromley, wu a claim for £68 13a for wages as millwright and miller. Mr Austin appeared for plaintiff, who said he had been employed by defendant to superintend the erection of a mill at Culverden, the present terminus of the Northern Bailway, and that he had worked as a miller there after the mill had been put up. Defendant pleaded that the charges made were exorbitant, and Baid that a partnership had existed between himself and one Bussell, who was not joined in the action. There was no proof of the partnership, but his Worship considered the charges rather high, and gave judgment for £55 and •osts.
