MEBIVALE CLUB. J The fourth annual meeting of the Merivaie Football Club was held on Tuesday j J evening, at the Central Hotel, Mr W. Garrard (captain) in the chair. There was j a large attendance. Thefollowingreportwaa I read and adopted : — " Gentlemen, — Your I Committee now lay before you the fourth j annual report, together with the balanco- ! sheet. Tne receipts during the season were £52 18s, and expenditure £51 143. The results of last season were fairly satisfactory. The first fifteen played eleven matches, of which four were won and seven lost, two of the latter being of a very doubtful character. We hope that players will profit by the loss of these two matches, so well remembered. For the firat time 3ince the formation of the Club a team left Canterbury to play matches in another Province. Matches were played against the TJnion and Poneke Clubs, of Wellington, which were both lost, the former by a try and the latter by two tries. Both results were a surprise. The match with the Union was considered a certainty for us. The team thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and thank the Wellington clubs for their courtesy. We understand that the two clubs intend to return the visit this season. The second fifteen played 11 matoheß, winning 5, losing 4 and 2 drawn, whioh must be considered a satisfactory performance, seeing that their men were frequently called on to play in the firat fifteen. For the first seascn we were enabled to put a third fifteen in the field, and, as some of the junior teams know to their cost, succeeded well. Ten matches were played, and G won, 3 lost and 1 drawn. The total number of points scored was — By the first fifteen : For, 47; against, 48. Second fifteen : For, 71 ; against, 43. Third fifteen: For, 67; against, only 19. The thanks of the Club are due to Messrs Rhodes, Beckett, Ogier, Lowry and Garrard for trophies presented j to our President, Mr F. J. Garrick, M.H.8., and Vice-Presidents the Hon J. T. Peacock and Mr A. E. G. Rhodes, for their help and patronage ; to Mr Beckett, for hia valuable services as umpire for the first fifteen ; and the other officers of the Club, particularly to our energetic Secretary and Treasurer, Mr V.
