Prince Bismarck. [Rkutbe's Tilhgbams.] [Received March 10, at 1 .30 p.m.J BERLIN, March 8. It is announced that Admiral SchlinitK has been appoiuted Governor of the German territory in New Guinea. Prince Bismarck is suffering from rheumatism, which is increasing in violence. ____________
FIRE BRIGADE DEMONSTRATION. NAPIER, Mabch 10. The Fire Brigade Demonstration Committee have wound up their affairs in connection with the late demonstration. The balance sheet showed total receipts .£1215, and expenditure .£llß6, balance £29, of which .£2O was voted to Secretary Bogl« and £9 to the turncock and his assistants. ELECTION PETITION DISMISSED. A PECULIARLY INTERESTING CASE. WELLINGTON, Mabch 10. The petition against the election of Mr Fisher for the Te Aro Licensing Committee was dismissed. It was proved that he was a shareholder in the United Importers Company at the date of the election, but is not now. Mr Wardell, R.M., dismissed the case on the ground that the petition did not satisfy the Act. At the time of the licensing elections it was known that an effort would be made to prevent the sale of liquor at the Hutt racecourse. The publicans canvassed vigorously, but forgot to enquire in what licensing district the course waß situated. They triumphantly returned their men for the Hutt district, only to Bee five staunch teetotallers elected for the Epuni district, in which the Wellington Racing Club's course lies. Petitions have now been lodged against the whole of this. Committee on various grounds ofi irregularity, and as it is understood the right t» sell drink on tho racecourse is in serious, jeopardy, considerable interest is felt in ih% result.
