THIS DAY.

An ordinary meeting of the South Waimakariri River Board was held at 2 p.m. to-day ; present— Messrs F. Jones (Chairman), H. W. Peryman, R. M. Taylor, H. Crooks, and S. P. Andrews. overseer's repokt. The overseer reported that there had been a small freshet on March 1, but no damage had been done. He had put three small lots of manuka in the river to protect the bank at Nos. 1 and 2 groins. The labour upon the work cost £8. COBBESPONDENCB. The following was read : — From the Riccarton Road Board, forwarding a statement of rates, from which it appeared that 5s 5d was outstanding out of £287 12s sd. It was decided to write of the balance outstanding. From the Property-tax Department, stating that valuation rolls for the district subject to the South Waimakariri river rate would be forwarded as soon as possible. The letter was received. From the Lincoln Road Board, enclosing cheque for £15 2s 6d, balance of rates due. The amount not collectable was only 9d, out of £55 3s 3d, and was ordered to be written off. From Sir F. D. Bell, Agent-General, London, acknowledging receipt of the Board's letter, re the £21,000 loan, and stating that the Board might be quite sure that he would avail himself of any opportunity to promote their interests when the loan was placed on the London market. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £93 4s Gd were passed for payment. After some routine business, the Board adjourned.
