The Orphanage Question.
Tho following letter is reprinted from tho Lyttelton Times of this morning : — Sir, — My attention has lately been directed to a number of letters and articles in tho Lyttelton Times and Star concerning the conduct of the new Charitable Aid ■ Board in discharging the master and matron of the Lyttelton Orphanage. Whilst fully concurring in the opinions expressed therein, I am somewhat surprised that no one has brought under public notice the conduct of tho same Board towards the Hospital officials. The late matron, who has filled the office for several years, and other situations in the same institution, and given the utmost satisfaction, which has been proved by her being promoted to that position, and has also filled the office of matron in another hospital, has been discharged, and a stranger placed in her stead at a great increase of salary. The dresser has had his salary reduced ' from .8100 a year to .£BO, and the lodge- , keeper also reduced. I think your readers will agree with me that -6100 a year was not too much for the dresser, who has held the office for 14 years, and was possessed of previous experience, and who possesses the confidence of the medical fraternity. Hoping these remarks will lead to further investigation, — I am, &c, NIFFIRG. i
