Annual School Festivals.
GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL. The annual distribution of prizes to the pupils of the Girls* High School toot place yesterday evening in Canterbury College Hall, which was filled with the children and their friends. On the platform, which was decorated with a number oi handsome pot plants, were the Lady Principal and teachers of the school, with several of the members of the Board of Governors, and the Professors of the College. Mr F. de C. Malet, Chairman of the Board of Governors, presided, and distributed the prizeb to the winners. Before doing so, he expressed regret that Mr Montgomery, who had so long held the position of Chairman of the Board, had found it necessary, owing to his visit to England, and to his Parliamentary duties, to resign his office. It would, however, be most satisfactory to the parents of pupils to hear that Mr Montgomery had not severed his connection with the Board, and would continue to take the same deep interest in the school as he had always done. Mr Malet then briefly reviewed the reports of the examiners. He remarked that on account of the representations of the Lady Principal, the Board would take into consideration the advisability of having these reports made public at the distribution of prizes. The number of pupils was now 125, as against 119 at the close of last year. Since the present Lady Principal had taken charge, the number had increased from 72 to 125, a fact which 6poke a great deal for the feeling entertained by the public towards the establishment since Miss Connon had taken oharge.
