Happy Thought.
m, TO THB BDITOB OF THE STAR. Sib, — In reading the account of Sir Julius Vogel's meeting the other evening I noticed some one asked Sir Julius if ne would have a sum placed on the estimates for raising the clock tower on the Postoffloe building, Mr Morton's handsome block at the corner of the square completely shutting out the clock face from the greater part of the city. A thought Btruck | me that, should the money be voted ! it would be a good opportunity for utilising that white elephant of ours, the iron clock tower now in the City Council yard. From what I can sco, the towers are of nearly equal size, and though a Gothic tower on an Italian (I think) building might shock some of our more aesthetic citieens, it might perhaps be excused on the score of utility. Of course the clocks would have to be changed. The one now in the old Government Buildings belongs to the iron tower, and would have to be exchanged for that at the Post-offico. — I am, Ac, CIVIS.
