The following is the report of the Examiner :— "I have much pleasure in forwarding herewith the report of the examination held on Friday last, June 26. The result of this, the first examination of the kind held in New Zealand, will, I feel sure, be considered very satisfactory by your Committee. The care which has been bestowed upon the papers, and the correctness of the answers given in the majority of instances, prove that a genuine interest has been taken in the lectures by the students. It is a matter of no little difficulty to say which of the three first papers on the list is theliest. After carefully comparing each | answer, however, I am of opinion that NO. 11 is certainly the best of the three, the other, two being of equal merit. The next three, numbered respectively 34, 86, and 55, are deserving of great praise. The one I place first among these, No. 34, is, indeed, but slightly inferior to those taking full marks. I must now refer to the papers which I have been compelled to place at the bottom of the list, viz., Nos. 12, 24, and 31. Should the writers noi have received full marks in the oral portion of the examination, I would suggest to the Committee the advisability of requesting them to come up for re-examination at some future date. "Henby Huoh Chaphan, "Hon Examiner." The names of the lady students who have passed are given below, the order given being the order of merit. It is satisfactory to know that the failures have been very few: — Mrs Corfe Miss Hobden Mrs Alfred Merton Mrs Izard Mrs E. Wilcox Mrs Stanford Mrs Jacobs Mrs Thomas Miss Sarah Lewis Miss J. Wilson MiBS Eose Seager Miss Alma Dale Miss Bendely Miss Thompson Miss Maude Mrs Wethey Miss Twentyman . Mrs Hulbert Miss Spensley Miss Gertrude Bowen Miss M. The ladies' Thursday evening class is to be omitted this week. The Merivale examination, for which 36 students have entered, will take place on Saturday next at 8.80 punctually.
