Lyttelton Borough Council.

♦ The usual meeting of this body took place on Monday evening at 7.30 p.m. in the Council Chambers ; present — the Mayor (Chairman) and Councillors Macdonald, Reed, M'Donald, Stinßon, Garforth, Dimond and Allwright. Correspondence was read : — From the Secretary of a country Fire Brigade, enquiring if the Council had any fire brigade plant to dispose of, and the price, if they had any such plant. The letter was ordered to be acknowledged, with the reply that the Council had ', no such plant to dispose of. From Sergeant-Major Mason re chimneys ! taking fire in the Borough. On the motion of Councillor Btin*m seconded by Councillor Allwright, it [ was decided—" That the Mayor see the Borough solicitor and Sergeant-Major Mason on the subject." The Secretary of the Lytttlton Borough School Committee gave notice that the Colonists' Hall would not be required by the Committee after the expiration of one month from date. This was noted. D. Riding applied, by letter, for a hawker's license. Granted. From Mr W. Austin, offering to do plumber's work for the Council. It was resolved to inform Mr Austin that the Council intend to divide their work amongst the various tradesmen in the town. Plans from Messrs M'lntyre and Lewis of the reclaimed land to be included in the Borough were put before the Council, and it was decided to forward them to Wellington. The burge9s list for 1885-6 was ordered to be certified to as correct. Accounts amounting to .£IOB 13s lid were passed for payment. The accounts and balance-sheet for 1885 for the Borough were laid on the table, and the auditors' report thereon. These were ordered to be advertised. The Foreman of Works, report was read, drawing, amongst other things, the attention of the Council to the stagnant water accumulated on the reclaimed land. The Town Clerk was instructed to write to the Harbour Board on the subject. The Mayor stated that he had granted permission to the Armed Constabulary to use the Colonists' Hall as a mess-room for a few days. Leave of absence was granted to Councillor Fyfe. The Council then adjourned.
