CHRISTCHURCH REGATTA.
A meeting of the Christchurch Regatta Club Committee was held at the Commercial Hotel, last evening ; present — Messrs M. Bowron (in the chair), S. C. Kesteven (Hon Sec), T. L. Smith, J. «U, Rule, G. F. Wright, W. A. Styche, Freeman' F. D. Kesteven, F. A. Styche, and E. M. Boulton. The first business was the consideration of a quantity of correspondence: — Mr G. Gould wrote accepting the office of President of the Club. Similar communications were received from Messrs J. Shand and J. L. Coster accepting vice-Presidentships. Mr P. Cunningham declined this honour on account of ill-health. The Rev J. o'B. , Hoare wrote expressing hip willingness to act as judge at the Regatta. The Secretary stated that the Rev E. A. Lingard had also been requested to act in this capacity, but .no reply had yet been received from him. A letter was read from the Star Boating Club, Wellington, agreeing with this Club's definition of a maiden oarsman, but not accepting their definition of a Junior. The Canvassing Committee reported that .£B2 9s 6d had been collected for the Regatta expenses, and two cups promised, one by Mr G. T. White, and tho other by Mr I. Herman. The Committee then proceeded to fix the entrance fees and allocate the prize money. It was decided that the programme be advertised. j It was resolved^ that all boats that can carry cockswains be Bteered by cockswains. As Mr J. F. Grierson had been absent from two consecutive meetings, his Beat on the Committee was declared vacant, and Mr A. L. Smith elected in his steady It was decided to endeavour to arrange for a half-holiday on Feb. 26, the day of the Regatta. The meeting adjourned.
