* [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Dec. 24. j Government having maturely considered J the rates at which they can afford to carry j grain with reasonable, profit within the j flat districts of Canterbury Plains and the district North of Oamaru, and having rei gard to tfho losses sustained by cartage j competition, have determined to revise the ' railway tariff to the following extent : — • The classified rates will remain as at prej sent up to eight miles, and from eight to sixteen miles tho rates will be the present [ rate for eight miles. Beyond tliat distance ; tha present rates will be reduced Is Gd per 1 ton. The only other material alteration in the Canterbury district is a special rate of In per ten fcr all goods ,-*ent trom wharves __*m______^____________________h_m___i
