Ordered to clear the Court, an Irish crier at Balinasloe did so by tliis announcement : " Now, then, all ye blackguards that isn't lawyers must leave the coort !" Indulgent Parent : "Eh ? Wot ? after me a-apendin' sixpence over yer, thro' it's* a-bein' yer birthday P You've 'ad a pen'orth o' plums, a 'a'porth o' green apples, a pen'orth o' whilks, a ha'penny bun, a bottle o' gingerbeer, a pen'orth o' gingerbread, an a saveloy. Oh, you darlin', ongrateful little reskel. Won't I warm yer up when I gets yer 'ome I" A young Irish servant, travelling on board a steamer, had the ill-luck to lose her "recommendation"' which had been given her on leaving her last place. She brought, however, the accompanying ticket, which some one had written for her, and which &he presented when applying for a situation : — " This is to certify that Kathleen O'Brien had a good character when she left Albany, but she lost it soon afterwarda."
