Meetings of Societies.
I ~ # On Thursday evening, at the half-yearly meeting of St Joseph's Branch H.A.C.8.5., the election of officers for the ensuing term took place, and was followed by the installation. Bro D. O'Connell was re-elected , President, P. Donnelly vice-President, J. : Dineen re-elected Treasurer, P. Leahy reelected Secretary, M. Mahony guardian, and P. Ryan warden. The quarterly balance-sheet was also laid before the j meeting and adopted. After some routine business, the retiring officers received a hearty vote of thanks which was duly acknowledged by Bro J. Nelson. The annual installation and investiture of the Worshioful Master and officers M i ' the Canterbury Lodge (No. 1018, E.C.) took place last evening in the presence of a large attendance of members and visitors, including spme twenty Past Masters of the various Constitutions. The installing officer was the D.G.M. (Bro H. Thomson), assisted in the ceremony by his deputy (Bro Dr Deamer) and district officers. The installation throughout was most impressive. The list of officers is as follows : — W.M.,BroW. H. Messenger; 5.W.,8r0 J.G. L. Scott ; J.W., Bio Or. Davieß ; Treasurer, Bro J. Baylie (re-elected) ; Secretary, Bro ! G. Adams (re-appointed) ; S.W., Bro T. S. Foster; J.W., Bro W. Scoular* D.C., Bro E. Price; 1.G., Bro G. Ferguson; Tyler, Bro A. Thielo. The musical part of the ceremony was performed by an effective choir. At the close of the investiture the W.M. called upon P.M. Baylie, on behalf of the Lodge, to present P.M. Bro M. Sandstein with a Past Master's jewel in recognition of his valuable services to the Lodge. The presentation was made with a few happy remarks, and suitably acknowledged by Bro Sandstein. The refresh- ' meats provided at the conclusion of business were on a liberal scale, and a most enjoyable evening was spent, there being no lack of musical talent among the brethren present. The ordiuary fortnightly meeting of the Anchor Lodge, U.A.0.D., No. 120, was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Woolston, on "Wednesday evening, A.D. Bro C. Goldsmith in the chair. By request of the
Juvenile Lodge Committee, the Lodge opened at 7.30, when the Committee reported that the arrangements necessary for opening the Juvenile Branch were completed, and that 30 candidates were in attendance. Thereupon the Lodge decided to proceed forthwith to initiate the candidates. The initiation ceremony was conducted by P. A. Bro H. B. Davis, assisted by D.P. Bro A. Taylor, Bros Goldsmith, A.D., and Penfold, P.A., and Bro Phillips, V.A. The Juvenile Anchor Lodge, No. 120, of the U.A.O.D. was then declared open, P.A. Bro Davis taking the chair for the first six months by appointment of the Parent Lodge. The Juvenile Lodge then proceeded to elect the remainder of the officers. The following Bros were declared '. duly elected :— Bro W. Gofton,. V.A . ; Bro H. Knight and Bro W. Spring, A.D.B.'s ; '. Bro John Phillips and Bro Henry Phillips, V. A.B.s; Bro A. Orange, I.«. ; Bro Henry Wicks, O.G. ; Bio C. Biel, MS. D.P. Bro '. Taylor having duly installed the officers, the Juvenile Lodge was dismissed!, A.D. [ Bro C. Goldsmith having resumed the chair, thp District President addressed the brethren on several questions connected i with Lodge business, and in the course of his remarks complimented the Committee upon the able and successful manner in . which they had accomplished the formation of the Juvenile Lodge, and expressed his conviction that the mo /ement would result in great moral and mental improvement of the youth of the district. A communication was received from the Christchurch Early Closing Society. The Secretary -was instructed to state that the .Lodge sympathised with the movement, and would give any assistance in its power to the Association. The Lodge was then closed in due form at 10.30 p.m. by the A.D.
