THE NENTHORN MURDER CASE.

A LIVELY MEETING. FATAL MINING ACCIDENT. DUNEDIN, Dec 18. At tho Police Court, White and Crowley were charged with the murder of Meldrum at Nenthorn. Mr Denniston , who defended, did not cross-examine any of the witnesses. He urged that there was no evidence to sustain anything further than a charge of manslaughter, but the Magistrate, Mr Carew, differed, and committed the two men for trial. The meeting of the Education Board today was very lively. Mr John M'Keuzie, M.H.E., moved the following resolution : — " That in the interest of education, as entrusted to this Board, and of decency and order as affecting that interest, it is important that every member should be courteously protected in his due liberty of action and speech."' He made a lengthy speech, referring to the attitude assumed by other members towards him, and justifying hia remarks in Parliament about tho Board's affairs being controlled by a ring. The Eev Mr Macgregor, who alone supported the motion, said Mr M'Kcnzie had three times at the last meeting been called an habitual liar, and he had a right to rebut such au" insinuation. The motion was 10-st by 5 to 2, in favour of an amendment expressing confidence iv the impartiality of the Chairman, Professor Shand, and asking Mr M'Ken/.ie to prove Ins imputations. A fatal accident occurred at Hamilton's, Maniototo County yesterday, a miner named M'Donald being killed by a full of cart.:. Ho leaves a wife and six children.
