The Vacant Portfolio.
■»• [Special to the "Stab.""] WELLINGTON, Dec. 19. There is every probability that the vacant portfolio in the Cabinet will be bestowed on the Hon Mr Larnach, C.M.G., member for the Peninsula. Whether he will take the portfolio of Mines I cannot say ; but I" understand Mr Ballance would like to be relieved of a portfolio to the duties of which, in addition to the number of departments he already has charge of, he is unable to devote the attention so important a department demands. It is understood that the Hon W. H. Reynolds will resign early in the New Year. Major Atkinson is a candidate for the Insurance Board, and intends taking up his residence in Wellington.
