SWEET DAY OF REST.
THE BONO OF THE LONDON BAPBATARIAN. (A very long way after Herhert.) Sweet Day when working men drink beer, And working women dinners huy ! I'll stop all that. O ye-, no fear ! At least, I'll try ! I do not want to shop or drink, I only want to eat, and caut ; The poor would have fre»h beer, they think, Bnt oh ! they shan't ! If thu.y will porter swill or ale, (And I their will in this would fetter), Why, if that drink is flat aud stale, So much the better 1 It serves them right! What right have they I To wish to do except as I wish ? j . They'd ramble, tipple, sport, be gay ! j Well, that's not lny wi3h. Why can't they dress themselves in black, And regularly go to chapel, Dine on cold mutton and rush back With texts to grapple ? Or why not take their forty winks— If they must rest— then tea and crumpets, An evening cheered by temperance drinks, And " Zion's Trumpets ? j What can they wish for more ?Of course I Their yearnings are pe^rse and sinful. They won't read tracts. fSxh the resource ! Of a cheap "skinful." j Don't let them drink, play, ride, or drive, j Travel t>y rail, buy nuts or apples, ! Then they'll have no iilternative But Schools and Chapels ! Sweet Day ! No, never mind the Clubs, But shut shop shutters very tight, Hermetically close all Pubs, And all is right !
