MIDDLEPARK STUD COMPANY'S YEARLINGS.

Subsequent to Messrs Bate's and Nosworthy's sales, a large assemblage visited Middlepark to attend a sale of yearlings, bred by the above-named Stud Company. After everyone had inspected the handsome and highly-bred stallion Apremont, sire of all the youngsters submitted, Mr Tabart took his place in the rostrum. Before going into the details of the salo, it may be mentioned that the weather during the last five months has been exceptionally unfavourable to studmasters in Canterbury-^ but, notwithstanding this drawback, the healthy condition in which all the yearlings were led into the ring, spoke volumes for the care and attention bestowed upon them by Mr George Cutts. After Mr Tabart had eulogised at length the merits of the sire of the lots to be submitted, a brown colt from Watersprite was introduced into the circle. He is a very well shaped youngster, with plenty of bone and good quality, and from 200gs he quickly advanced to 360gs, when he was knocked down to the bid of Mr G. Clifford, who also owns his half brother Stoneyhurst, winner of the Welcome Stakes last week. A brown filly out of Becky Sharp, did not elicit much competition, and was a bargain to Mr G. G. Stead at 150gs. A boy colt from Miss Flat, dam of "Welcome Jack, was next led into the ring, and on his appearance a buzz of admiration could be heard. He is a perfect model of a horse and it would be difficult to find a single fault with him. Starting at 200gs, there was brisk bidding between Mr Graham of Sydney and Mr Stead, and the latter gentleman's nqcl at 470gs secured the highest priced yearling of the day. No bid being made for the chestnut filly out of Rupee, she was sent back to her box. The chestnut colt from Fieurauge was a very neat youngster, standing nice and low to the ground, with good quarters and plenty of bone, and commencing at lOOgs he steadily ran up to 175gs, at which price he fell to the bid of the Hon W. Robinson. The Charm colt, who was the only youngster who showed signs of having fared badly during the spring, was passed in. A big upstanding brown filly from Red Rose, grand dam of Black Rose, was knocked down to Mr J. Stephenson for 195gs, but a strapping colt out of Aglaia was sent back to his box, the highest bid being 200gs. The brown filly from En Avaci, dam of the New Zealand Cup winner. Vanguard, a perfect picture, as handsome as paint, and very speedy looking, attracted some keen competition, and starting at lOOgs rapidly ran up to 270g3, at which figure she fell to the nod of Mr Graham, of Sydney. As there was no bid for the Hammock filly, she was passed in, and the chestnut fillyg from Tdalia brnwrVt into tho viug. action. Mr Tabart, on Btarting her at lOOOgs, said that if that price was not reached Bhe would not be sold, but the proprietors of the Company were prepared to lease her for two seasons, and tenders to that effect would be received by him up to Saturday next. The two-year-old colt, Archduke, by King of Clubs, out of Maria Theresa, was the next offered, and after some brisk bidding was knocked down to Mr J". Armstrong at 250 guineas.
