OBITUARY.
INVERCARGILL, Oct. IG. Mr J. T. Thomson, late Surveyor-General, died this morning. The deceased gentle-
man some months ago had a paralytic stroke, from the effects of which he never completely recovered. He was till lately a member of the Town Council, and took : great interest in all matters affecting the • Borough, especially the improvement of . the New River. He founded the Southland ' Institute, to which he was a frequent con- j tributor of papers on scientific and other ; subjects. j
