Sydenham Election.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR,
Sir, — The ways of the Working Men's Political Association are marvellous, and their choice of a . candidate for Sydenham especially, is enough to make all rightminded working men desire that the present Association should be blotted out for ever. On the one hand we have as a candidate Mr J. L. Scott, who with his own hands and brain has assisted to create one of the largest and most successful workshops in the Province, giving employment to a large number of skilled mechanics, and who from his intelligence, industry, and honesty any working-men might look upon as a fair representative of their views. On the other hand, we have the man of their choice, Mr William White. In what possible sense can he compare with Mr Scott as representing the working classes ? I feel sure the Association will have no sympathy from the general public for having passed over a man like Mr Scott in favour of Mr White ; and the ballot-box, I venture to predict, will show that the working men of Sydenham can use their own judgment without being dictated to by any small lot of agitators. — I am, &c, CHIPS._
