This Day. (Before C. Whitefoord, Esq., E.M., and Cr. H. Blackwell, Esq., and the Mayor.) Assault and Destruction to P.boferty. — John Patterson (a Maori) was charged with assaulting James Horrell on May 13 last. Mr M. Nalder appeared for the complainant, and withdrew the charge of destruction to property. Evidence was given showing that an assault had been committed arising from a disputed title to property pending the decision of the Court. Mr Nalder had no desire to press for a penalty. The Bench entered a conviction, cautioned accused, and ordered him to pay costs.

Breach op Licensing Act. — Joseph M'llroy, of the Mandeville Hotel, was charged with selling liquor during prohibited hours. In the absence of a witness, the police applied for further adjournment. Mr Nalder, for defendant, objected strongly, and the Bench directed the police to withdraw the case. This was done.

Drunkenness. — A case against Michael O'Dee was further remanded, as the police had been unable to execute the warrant for arrest. Timothy Murphy, an old offender, was fined 40s, or 48 hours' imprisonment. Disorderly House — John and Annie Hill were charged with keeping a disorderly house, and with using bad language in a public place. The Bench dismissed the case against John Hill, and fined the female offender .£3 and costs.

Bankrupt Surety. — In the case of Thomas Wyatt, who had been accepted as surety for a person bound over at a previous sitting to keep' the peace, the Bench, on the application of Mr Nalder, decided that the bankrupt was Btill liable for the sum named in the event of a breach, and failing payment, to imprisonment. Civil Cases. — G. H. Blackwell v. John Bird, claim .£2O 16s 3d. Judgment for plaintiff by default. — James Ayres v. — Connon, claim 14s 6d. Judgment for plaintiff, with order made to pay in 14 days. — Same v. John Mark, claim 10s. Judgment for plaintiff for amount, with 12s costs. — T. Maud C. Wright v. John Green, claim £2 8s Bd. Judgment for plaintiff by default.
