Kaiapoi Borough School

The Committee of this school met on Monday evening ; present — Messrs Parnham (chair), Moore, Pashby, Humphrey, Wilson, aud Coup. Correspondence was received from the Education Board, stating that funds were not available for increased accommodation, as required by the Committee ; that the drainage referred to should have attention, and asking for information re pupil teacher. The head master's report showed an attendance of 504 pupils on the roll, with an average of 358-4. The report explained the falling off in attendance to be due to the potato-digging season not having closed. The head master nsked for new swingß to be erected in the play ground, and requested an alteration of time for afternoon assembly from halt-past one to one o'clock. He attended personally to explain his reason for such requests. On the motion of Mr Wilson, it was decided to make the alteration as requested by tho head master, commencing on Monday next, and continuing until Sept. 1. The Chairman was requested to ascertain if a room could be hired till the class-rooms were erected, which could be used to accommodate the classes now crowded out of the school. It was resolved that application be made to the Board for rent, of the same. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £7 18s 3d. One sent in by Mrs Gibling, for cleaning the school, was referred to the caretaker. It was decided to get a truck of Whitecliffs coal for consun.ipt.iou in the school. Mr Pashby moved and Mr Coup seconded,— " That the caretaker recoivo one month's notice." The Committee then drew up a schedule of duties, offering JJ36 per year, with house accommodation, valued at jJ2o,and £14, extra, if scavenging be under taken. Ifc was resolved to advertise tor applications for the offico to be received by the Chairman on or before July 12. The Committee then adjourned.
