This Day. i (Before C. Whitefoord, Esq., R.M.) j Breach op Licensing Act. — J. M'Hroy, I of the Mandeville Hotel, was charged with j selling liquor duiing prohibited hours. Mr jM. Nalder appeared for the defence. The i police called M. O'Shead, and the witness j not appearing a warrant was issued for his arrest, as he was bound in his surety to be present. The case was adjourned for 14 days. .Slaughterhouse License. — H. Revell. Granted. Civil Cases. — Ovenden's Trustees v. James Kinley, claim £16 6s 6d, judgment for plaintiffs with costs. T. Burgess v. Joseph Beswick, claim .£2O Bs, balance due for oats supplied. Mr Stringer for the plaintiff. Mr H. Beswick for defendant. The "defendant had filed a plea that the action was barred by the Statute of Limitations. Mr Stringer objected to the plea being l entertained, as the plaintiff had only been served that morning, whereas the Act required 24 hours' previous notice. Mr Beswick submitted that the plea might be j allowed by leave of the Court, and that j such leave ought to be granted as the I notice had been forwarded to the officer of [ the Court on the Thursday previous. Mr | Stringer replied that the defence under | the Statute was a most ungracious one, and no sufficient reason had been given for ! granting any departure from the Act. Mr : Whitefoord said he could not disallow the plea under the circumstances, and the hearing of the case was fixed by consent for three weeks hence. — W. Weston v. T. Wyatt, claim .£lO 15s. Judgment for plaintiff by default. — H. Beal and Phillips v. T. Stevenson, claim £2d for threshing done. Mr Stringer appeared for plaintiff. Defendant applied for an adjournment in order to procure witnesses. After hearing the case for plaintiff, the Bench granted an adjournment for one week.
