A VISIT FROM REDMOND AND SEXTON.
THE RECIDIVATES' BILL. SUEZ CANAL CONVENTION. [Age Specials.] -LONDON, May 29. It is announced that Mr Redmond, the member for Wexford, and Mr Sexton, the member for Sligo, are making the necessary arrangements for a visit to Australia. The Adelaide Town and Country Bank have established a branch office in London. It is now considered certain that the Recidiviste Bill will be passed by the French Chambers without amendment. A subsequent compromise is, however, possible between the British and French authorities subject to the operation of the Act of Constitution. The Technical Commission, which is to meet in Paris to consider the proposal for widening the Suez Canal, has been officially confirmed. Sir Andrew Clarke is to represent the Australian Colonies on the Commission. I The prospectus will be issued to-morrow I of the new Oriental Banking Corporation,
with a capital of .£2,000,000, in .£lO shares. The first issue of shares will be for JE1,000,000. June 3. The Committee of tho French Senate have prepared their draft report. They approve of the general provisions of the Bill/ and confirm the proposal to transport criminals to New Caledonia, and French Guiana. They have, however, expunged the clause which proposed to utilise the Marquesas or Mendova Islands in the Pacific Ocean as penal settlements. The Committee further express their approval of the suggestion to release criminals after they have served six yaars imprisonment at the places to which they may be transported.
