ELLESMERE DOMAIN BOARD.
A meeting of the above Board was held on Monday at the Southbridge Hotel ; present — Messrs W. Graham, W. Bishop, S. Lemon, L. V. Desborough, and J. M'Kellar. Mr W. Graham was re-elected Chairman. The balance-sheet was laid on the table, showing a credit balance of .£34 10s 8d and other assets to the amount of £19 10s 6d, making a total of .£54 ls 2d, which was considered highly satisfactory. It was decided to have whatever improvements necessary done at once, und^r the supervision of Mr W. Bishop. An application was received from Messrs M'Vinnie and Kellahan (the Board's tenants), for their lease, the draft of which should have been prepared in 1879. It was decided to get the Board's solicitor to prepare it at once. Mr Bishop pointed out the necessity for power being given by the Legislature to the Board to make a charge on certain days of the year. Unless they had this power it was feared the sports and race meeting could not be satisfactorily continued. The Chairman stated that the late Mr E. J. Lee, their representative in the House, had formulated a short Bill to empower the Board to make certain charges on three days of the year, but there was no time to be devoted to it last session. The Chairman and Mr Desborough were authorised to wait on Mr Wakefield during his visit of the present week, and lay the circumstances of the case before him, so that the matter can be concluded this session. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the proceedings.
