ANOTHER FIRE.
FIRE BRIGADE DIFFICULTY. INVERCARGILL, Mat 1. Mr Basstian's stables at Dunrobin station were burnt last night, the fire having started in the loft. The horses were all out at the time, but the harness was destroyed, together with other plant. The cause of the fire is unknown, no one having been on the premises since Friday last. Insurances — £250 or £300 with South British. The Invercargill Fire Brigade (a paid body) having been disbanded by resolution bf the Borough Council, a meeting was held to-night for the purpose of enrolling volunteers for the new brigade. About 50 were present, but only 13 offered their services. There is an opinion about that, in the absence of water supply by gravitation, the work of a fire brigade is too arduous to go unpaid here.
