I . — • — n [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, March 5. A final meeting ofjthe New Zealand Eifle Association was held last night, to consider the affairs of the Association. About 99 ' were present, and the Hon Major Baillie ' presided. A balance-sheet was presented, j which showed the receipts to be £1473, ; and the expenditure £1113, leaving an ' approximate balance oft -6(50. Several spoke against the system of employing I scorers and others from Wellington, 1 as it considerably increased the expendi- ; ture. Surprise was manifested on the re- ■ ceijit of an account for £100 from Mr ; Poach, on whose grounds the targets had been erected. All tho local Committee men stated that at the interview with Mr Peach, the latter unhesitatingly offered the land free of any charge, on the terms that it was left in the same condition as before , the meeting. Ultimately it was decided I • riot to recognise the claim, and to carry out the agreement with Mr Peach. A long j i discussion ensued on the system of management and the heavy expenses incurred at each meeting. On the motion of Captain j Mahone, a resolution was carried that with j a view to decreasing the expenses, the entire management of the Association meetings should be in the hands of local and executive Committees, and that they be responsible for the efficiency of markers, &c. A resolution was carried that the Council be requested to amend the rules of tho Association with the view of giving

effect to the foregoing resolution. In replying to a question, Mr Stevens stated that when the affairs of this meeting were settled ho intended to resign tho position of Secretary.
