Lord Rosebery on the Convention.
[Reutkb's Telegbams.] [Reoeived Deo. 11, at 12.80 p.m. I SYDNEY, Dec. 11. Lord Rosebery was present last night at a dinner given by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, and in replying to the toast of his health, spoke highly of the importance which must be attached to the Intercolonial Convention as marking a distinctive epoch in the history of the Australasian Colonies. In its resolutions regarding the conviot question, the Convention, Lord Rosebery remarked, spoke with a power whioh could not be claimed by the Colonies individually. The Convention spoke to the whole world as the month-piece of a united nation determined to take part in future eventß, and determined to oontrol the present as regards its individual self.
