« [SPBOIAI TO THB " STAB." J DUNEDIN, Dbo. 10. Gold mining operations at Saddle Hill, near Dunsdin, hare been pushed forward rigorously during the past few months. At the invitation of the Directors of the Company about 200 citizens visited the Saddle Hill Company's mice on Saturday. The main shaft is sunk somo 409 to 500 yards from the batteries and the tunnel is 70 feet long, the stone being strong at the farther extremity and averaging three feet in width. The crushing has resulted in a regular yield of from Bdwt to lldwt to the ton. Till within the last three months crushing was only carried on intermittently, as there were many difficulties to oontend with; but. the Company now are able to crush regularly. About 800ozs of gold has been taken from this shaft within nine months.

GOLD PBOSPEOIING. This afternoon an application was lodged at the Waste Lands Oflice for a gold-mining lease for 15 years of 16} acres situated on the east side of the dividing range, at the head waters of the Wilberforce river. The application was made on behalf of B. D. Pullan, of Ohristohuroh, and others, who purpose carrying on operations under the style of the " Ohristohuroh Quartz Mining Oompany." It is stated that tho " North Oreek Mining Company " have made arrangements for having half a ton of quartz brought from the Wilberforce distriot for the purpose of a trial orushing.
