Walking Match.
SOOTT VIOTOBIOUB. [Earn Pbbbs Absooiatioh.] WELLINGTON, Dbo. 9. The 48 hours* walking matoh between Edwards and Soott was concluded at 10 o'clock last night, Soott winning by two miles and fire laps (400 yards). From the start on Thursday ovening the match was a very even one until Saturday morning, when Soott assumed a rery deoided lead, and from this stage the result was nerer in doubt. At noon yesterday Scott was leading by six miles, and although Edwards made sereral attempts to reduce the gap, they were not successful. Towards the end of tbe matoh Scott showed exoellent staying powers, and, amid genoral cheering, won as abore. Neither of the competitors appeared distressed at the conclusion. The attendance throughout the match waa rery poor. The distanoes walked were — Soott, 191 miles 9 laps; Edwards, 189 miles 4 laps. Edwards proceeds to Auokland from here, where, it iB understood, he intends challenging any two pedestrians there for a six daya' contest, he walking against the two.
