JUTE WOOLPACKS.
9. The National Mortgage and Ageasy Company have handed us the following eiroular from the German Consul- General at London:— " Consulate General of the German Empire, «' London, Sept. 14. " Sir, — German wool carders, spinner* and manufacturers, who are considerable buyers of Australian, Oape, Birer Plate, and other foreign wools in this market, are seriously complaining about the jute wrappers in whioh these wools are packed, and tho jute thread or string used for binding up the separate fleeces. It appearß that, fibre of jute easily adheres to the' wool with whioh it comes into oontaot,, and most tenaciously clings to it. It thus gets unavoidably mixed with the wool during the spinning process, and the jute particles not taking the colour given to the wool in the dying of it, defeots are produced whioh particularly chow in the darker oolours, and whioh even the most careful management and manipulation are unable to remove. Tho manufacturers suggest that in the paoking and binding up of these wools all jute textures and strings should in future be avoided, and, if thi! be found impracticable, • they should at least undergo tbe prooesi of
being singed by gas before being so used. It is asserted that in the oase of wool arriving in pressed bales, the single fleeoes oould be paoked in suoh a manner as to be kept separate without being bound up with any thread or string whatever. Considering that the consignors abroad, the merohants and brokers in thiß oountry, and the manufacturers purchasing the wool, are equally interested in the subjeot, I have taken the liberty of bringing th. above oireunietanees under your notioe in order that you may use your opportunities and infiuenoa to assist in removing the cause of a dissatisfaction whioh, in time, may beoome detrimental to the beat interests of all parties oonoerned.— l am, ko., "JOBDAK, "Consul-General for the German Empire."
