— *t> [Pbb Pbbsb Abbooiatioh.] DUNBDIN, Deo. 7. The Otago Vigilance Committee waited on Mr Mitohelßon to-day, re the Otago Central Bailway. The Miniater replied, acknowledging the necessity of pushing on the work as rapidly as possible, and said he would give instructions to the Engineer-in-Chief to prepare contracts for the neoeßsary tunnels and viaduots, and have tenders called for as soon as they were completed. He would have the line made bb far aa Deep Stream. It would be his endeavour, during his term of offioe, to have the works whioh had been passed pushed on aa rapidly as possible. He did not believe in keeping them hanging orer ao long aa had hitherto been done. He expreased tbe opinion that it waa not the province of the Government to find work for the unemployed exoept in very extreme oase_
