The Steamship Triumph on a Rock.
A PJONEBB BOAT'S MISHAP. [Pbb Pbbbs Assooiatiok.] AUOKLAND, Nov. 30. Messrs Shaw Bavill's direct steamer The Triumph left for the South last night. She was observed' this morning hard and fast on Shearer rook, about a mile east of tho Tiritiri lighthouse, at the entranoe to Hauraki Gulf, twenty miles from Auckland. The rock has two feet of water on at low tide. It is steep, too, and is marked by a buoy anohored in fourteen fathoms of water. The Stella and other steamers have gone to render assistance. LATER. The steamer Triumph struok on the southeast aide of Tiritiri, on the fair way for the lighthouse. Bhe is on the rooks at her foremost tight compartment, with 12ft of water in the compartment. It is supposed that there is a hole through her, but this oannot be ascertained yet. It is believed she can be got off, she having gone on the rock four hours after ebb tide, with 17 fathoms astern ; and the orew are now shifting the oargo aff, in the hope that she will float. There n 17ft of water abaft the fore rigging, so that she is hanging by her bow. It vas a clear night, though dark. The pilot left her out* side Uangitoto at 9 o'clock, and gave the oaptain his comae. The ateamer was going eleven knots, and struck very heavily. No light has been thrown on 'the oause of tbe disaster, as the oourse should have taken her miles away from Tiritiri, and the lighthouse was right ahead of where she struok. The Captain was on the bridge at the time. A vessel has been chartered to go down and take tho oargo off, whioh comprises a quantity of railway iron from London for the south, fourteen bales of wool, &o. The Triumph is 1797 tons register, and she was built in 1880.
