KAIAPOI MAYORALTY.

TO THB EDITOB OF THB STAB, Bib,— At the earliest moment, and with a full degree of pleasure, I hare to acknowledge the favour of Mr B. M. Smith's letter in '.'hureday evening's Star, and Mr B. Moore's election Committee desire to thank that gontluman for naming the matters therein contained, in so open and honeßt a way as to allow a publio "refutation of the false statements which have been circulated. Mr Moore has already completely deniod in a frank and straightforward way any connection whatever with Messrs Scott Bros, in the bridge tender. One or two soeptical persons persisted in saying that Scott Bros, oould tell » different tale. I write at the I

request of a Ooinr&itteo of ten who were present, and Metsrs Scott Bros, have alao denied any oolluiion direot or indirpot. How, however, it appears that information is wanted on the question whether Mr Moore is connected with the tender through Councillor Butt, to whioh his note to myself is a oomplete answer, namely, " Kaiapoi, Nov. 22, 1882.* " Dear Wilson,— ln reply to your note, I am not oonneoted with the bridge tender in any way, directly or indirectly, to Messrs Boot* Bros, through Councillor Butt, through Mr tt. W Bmith, or any other person in tho known world.— Yours truly, " B. Moobb." I have personally no knowledge that Councillor Butt is conneoted with the tender. Thanking you for the favour of publication of the foregoing, — I am, Ac. J. LOWTHIAN WILSON, On behalf of Mr Moore's Committee.
