Kbbpihg a Gambling Houbb.— George Gaukrodger was accused of being the oooupier of rooms kept for the purpose of unlawful gaming. The prisoner had been arrested on warrant issued at Ashburton. He was remanded to appear at the Ashburton Besident Magistrate's Court on the following day. Bail allowed. A Young Offhndbb.— William Skelton, a boy nine years of age, was aoonsed of obtain* ing 7s by false pretences from Theresa Bowe. The boy's father, it appeared, was dead, and his mother was obliged to go to service to get her living ; and he was left in oharge ot a Mrs Janet, of Tuam street. He had been sent to receive money for Mrs Janet to Mrs Bowe, ond had since been to the same person on his own acoount, and obtained money amounting to 7s in all, for which he had not been sent, and whioh he had spent, acoording to his own admission, in " lollies, apples, and oranges." Marshall, lioensee of the Terminus Hotel, was acoused of supplying beer on Sun*

day, Sept. 8, to one William Coulter, who was not a bond fide lodger or traveller ; and, on a second information, with keeping bis hotel open on Sunday to supply others than travellers. Sergeant Moore stated that he had visited the hotel at 2 p.m. on the Bunday in question, and saw the defendant behind tho bar and two men in front of the bar with pint pots before them. One of the men taid be was a traveller from Lyttelton, and produoed his tioket in verification. The other said he lived in Durham street, and had been invited into the hotel by the traveller. An* other man named Coulter wai also there drunk with a bottle of beer in his possession, but he said to witness that he had get the beer " from hit own tub at home." A fourth man who was in the bar-parlour also had a bottle of beer on him, whioh ho said had come from the same "tub." Witness had gone into the house by tbe main entrance on the South Town belt. William Coulter deposed that he had gone to the hotel with a man named Savage to get a nip of whisky, but the landlord refuted to terve them. When they went there eaoh had a bottle of beer on him, but neither drank any en the premises. A witness named House, who had come from Port with a friend, said eaoh had a glass of beer at the hotel, and that he heard defendant refuse to serve Coulter with whisky. Gate dismissed. Yabio.B I»__bmatiO-S. — Henry Cunningham was convicted of having been drunk and behaving in a disorderly manner in Martin street on Bunday last, and was fined £1. —George Clarke, a butoher's boy, was fined 5i for leaving his oart unattended without look* ing the wheel, but as it appeared there was no ohain on the oart the Benoh expressed the opinion that the boy's matter ought to pay the fine.— -Bichard Merriok, for driving on the Park road footpath, was fined 10a. — Patrick Kilbride, allowing a horse to wander, 5t. — Annie Hills, using obicane language in Cook street, 6s. — A oate in whioh Annie Hills applied for a protection order against ht r husband, J.
