Btdnkt, August 30. Considerable disappointment was caused by tha scratching of Despot for the Metropolitan Stakes. The horae was perfeotly sound, and no reason is assigned for hia withdrawal. M. Legassiers, of La Gironde, Franoe, haß written a letter on the bad manner in which Colonial wines, as a rule, are made, and strongly urges the necessity for inproving cellarage accommodation. A man who oalled himaelf Lieut. Gordon, and olaimed to be a nephew of Sir Arthur Gordon, has disappeared. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
