Mr Service, the Premier, in replying to the memo, recently drawn up by Sir Thomas M'llwraith, and adopted by the Queensland Government, has proposed that a convention of Colonial delegates to consider the annexation question should be held in Melbourne as Boon as possible. The Bank of England weekly returns show tbe total reserve in notes and bullion to be £12,400,000, an advance of £600,000 during the week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 44 per cent. The Colonial wool market is quiet. The arrivals, to date, for the next auctions commencing on August 21, amount to 37,000 bales. There are no changes to report in New Zealand securities, or in Colonial breadstuffs and tallow.
