In the Auokland " Evening Star " of tht ■ 27th April last appeared the following local* which -expla.i-.-s iteolf : — Tho brig Bella Mary, from Melbourno, b_ ballast, bound for Kaipara, put into harbour yesterday morning to obtain medioal aid for Captain Owen, mastor of tho vessel, who hai been very unwell during the latter part of the voyage. Captain Oweß, who has followtd' the seafaring profession for many years, and had never until leaving Melbourne on April 10th last suffered from illtesß of any ' severe nature, was suddenly seized on that date with violent pains in the hack. Sinot then he has been swung up in a hammook ia the cabin quite helpless. The vessel was off Kaipara at noon on Thursday last, but tht weather being; thiok and foggy, it was deemed advisable to jome on to Auokland for mediostt assistance. The barque arrived early yerttr* day morning, and Dr Moore having been sent* for, visited Captain Owen, and gave instruo* tions to the mate of the vessel rogarding treat* ment/ The invalid is suffering from a BptO-M • of rheumatism of a severe nature, and (lit dootor oonsiders it advisable to effeot a partial recovery before attempting the removol of hit patient to more suitable quarters on short. Captain Owen is well known in Auckland, and many residents will be sorry to leant Of hiß affliction. Beferring to above, Captain Owen Hai tbil day (Ist Deoember) stated : " After being treated for about five weeks by two raedk<3 men successively, with very little alteration in my condition, exoept that the pain in my hands and baok was made somewhat easier through the effeot of tho galvanio battory, I ' felt a gradual sinking that told mo the dread end was not far off, aud ono of my visiting friends suggested that I should try Willi* Hitehen's Blood Bestorer would do, as it war ; being so talked ebout far and Hide.
