THE WAR IN MADAGASCAR.
Admiral Pierre and his forco, on June 14, captured Tamatave, and destroyed Toll Point, Motamba, and Terenive. The Malagasy envoys now in London, say that the demands of the Frenoh were preposterous. They knew that Admiral Fiorre's ultimatum would be rejected. The Queen of Madagascar gave etrict ordera not to return the fire of the French, She recalled most of her troops to the capital, and only 200 remained at Tamatave to maintain order. Tamatave is defended by merely one mud fort, mounting four old muzzlo-loading guns. Tho Queen is now shut off from the foreign Powers. It will take the Frenoh at least five months to march to the oapital, and there is sufficient food there for a siege of several months. Tho Hovas have at the capital 7000 disciplined troops, most of whom are armed with Remington rifles ; and the nation will fight to the bitter end. Meantime it is hoped the Powers will interview the envoys regarding the bombardment of Tama' ave as a wanton and cruel act. It is feared that many foreign residents are killed.
