BOARD OF EDUCATION.

At present he considered there was much dissatisfaction among teachers on accrual of the vagueness of the term. The Chairman thought that the attention of the Department might be drawn to the advisability of fixing a certain percentage of attendance as sufficient to entitlo a child to be presented for examination. At present it was optional with teachers to a great extent what number of •children they preented. In answer to the Chairman, Mr Veel pointed out that the present arrangements favoured a false impression being made of the I real merits of a sobool. A master who only I presented four ohildren, who all passed, was credited with having pawed 100 per cent, whereas, perhaps, that master should have presented twenty- five, and would then have obtained a less percentage.
