IHE LATE LORD FREDERICK CAVENDISH.
(From the Tim«) The Bradford Cemetery Company hay« just completed, on behalf of the tenantry of tho Duko of Devonshire on tho Bolton Abbey estates, a memorial cross of the lato Lord Frederick Cavendish. The cross, which is carved from tho fine whito freestone obtained, at Bolton wood quarries, has been ereoted from designs propared by Messrs Mawson, architects, of Bradford. It consists of fire picoes— namely, a base about 7ft square and 2ft thick formed of one solid block, a pedestal about 4ft 6in high by 4ft square, an ornamental shaft, the cross proper, and a cap or finial; and now that the different portions havo been put together, the desigu is seen to be very harmonious and effective Ihe cross and shaft era very richly oarvod with (he carious interlacing patterns peculiar to fiucio remains, this tortionof the work having bean performed by McEsra Farmer and Brindley, tho fculptura of London, who div the carving and figures on the exterior of the Bradford Town Hall. On the pedestal is the following icßcriotion in '-tunic text: -

The text of tho inscription -was decided upon by Lady S. Cavendish, tho widow of tho deceases! nobleniaa, and Lady Egerton, his oiater, while Lha hnes quoted aro words used by Mr Gladstone in communicating tha sorrowful cecrs of the assassination to the House of Com mocs on the Monday after its occurrence. Tho cross is to be erected on ita permanent site a'o Bolton Abbey, the plaoa selected bcinj? at Lho rdgo of the Abbey burial-ground in v romantic spot, beneath the shade of mio oi the magnificent sjoamore trees for which tho Abbey is famous.
