It is a pitx that our Oonsoript Fathers, th» members of the City Council, do net bear in mind that Ohristohuroh is not a little oountry Tillage, but as New Zealand towns go, a good sized town. In the days of the Pilgrims, no doubt, those very estimable individuals, of whose virtues and ezoellenoies we can sever hear too much, were accustomed to mud, and a good deal of it. They camo fresh from the farm and the plough, and when they paid » visit to Olmttohuroh, probably thought it a yety fine thing to be ablo to walk about without getting over their ankle*. But in these days of asphalte paring for the side-paths, we expect a little more attention to the state of the oar» riage way. The mud for the last two days has been so abundant that many who would otherwise have taken advantage of the cessation of the rain yesterday, were unable to da so in oonsequenoeof the necessity for crossing the streets. Now the streets were filth/. We really think that tbe City Council should see to this matter, and try to keep the principal streets, at any rate, in something like deoent order.
Ii there any necessity, we should like toknow, for leaviig the mud swept away by the machine at the side of the street, until a considerable part of it is worked baok into its old plaoe again t Could sot the aaud oarfas aooompany the sweeping-maohine, and take off the mud as fast as it was placed by th« side of the street t
