HIS FIRST LOVE.
The words, "I love you," aTe exceedingly simple when said at home ; but try to say them in the baok parlour seated next to the one you adore, and the thing is quite different. You feel a ohoking sensation, the larynx of the throat mishes itself up almost into your mouth, and your heart goes pit-pat like a young lamb's tail. This was our friend John Taylor's experience. Ho was a clerk at Middlesbro'. He was at firat intended for the ministry at Harrowgato, but fortune and the railway train brought him to work at Middlesbro'. John loved, and tried to tell his affaotion. With spotless white front and oollar (paper), he sought the house of Angelina. It was his third trial. For two hours he tried to talk about his objeot, but in vain. At last he' said, " Angelina, has it never Btrnok you that I muse feel lonely P" "Lor, John; you don't say bo," was the reply. '- 1 mean, dear, did you never think I wanted some companion to protect me, take care of the house •> *ion I'm awar, and keep me home at nights?" " Well, John," said Angelina, " now I think of it, father wants to sell our dog Charley ; ho is a first-class one, and you can have him for three-and-six* pence." He never called again.
