LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
Wednesday, July 5. The Hon F. Whitakbb g*vo notice to bring in Bills to amend the Mining Companies Act, 1877, and the Railways Authorisations Act, 1881. Ho also gave notice to bring in a Bill to amend and consolidate the law rolating to legal prnufitionera. A Bill on this subject was received from the Judicature Commissioner, and read a first time.
In reply to Sir Qt. Whitmore, the Hon F. Whitakbb said that when Sir G. Grey's Bill came up the Council would have the three measnres beforo them, and would then be able to make one good Bill out of these three.
A message from the Acting-Governor notified that leave of absence had been given to the Hon 0. Johnston for the session.
The Companies Bill was read a third time and passed.
Replying to Sir G. Whitmore, the Hon P. Whitakeb said Government intended to take no action regarding the alleged inadvisability of the dormant Commission to act as Administrator of the Government, devolving upon a member of the Judicial Bonoh during the Governor's abienoe.
The Fisheries Sill was recommitted on the motion of the Hon W. H. Ntjbsk, with a view to making an amendment providing that a single license to fish should run through the Colony, inßtead of a license being required for each district.
After some debate the question was deferred, and the Council rose at 3.45 p.m.
