An ordinary monthly meeting of the Committee of the Sooiety for the Prerentionof Cruelty to Animnls wbb held at the Provinoial Council Chambers nt 4 15 p.m. yesterday; present— The Most Bey the Primate (in the ohair), tho Beva T. Flavell, L. M. Qinaty, and H. Williams, Messrs Q. Booth, J. Anderson, Q. A. Eeade, Lane, F. Jone?, T. W. Jones and Shaw (HonSeo). Tho Committee proceeded to consider the question of the appointment of a solicitor.

Mr Shaw raid that Mr Broham had informed him that it was almost absolutely necessary that a solicitor should bo appointed to conduct caieß for the Society in Court. Tb« BflT T. FUrell luggeeted that tome

members should 'oe requested to make enquiries on tho subject. It was ultimately resoWed, on the motion of Mr Beade—" That the subject of the appointment of a legal advisor to the Society be relegated to the Executive Committee to report to the next meeting of the General Committee."

The Hon Secretary stated that Messrs Leahy, Beck, and Buddy had offered to act as honorary inspectors to the Society. It was resolved to acoopl the offer of theße gentlemen, and also to defray all expenses they might incur while doing spocinl work for the Sooiety. The action of the Hon Sebretary meriting to the newspapers, explaining the objects of the Socioty, wes approved. Tho Hon Secretory stated that Mr Hill had consented to act as honorary veterinary surgeon to the Sooiety, and a vote of thanks was 'passed to that gentleman. T-he Seoretary drew the attention of the meeting to the question of appointing a Ladies' Committee. Such a Committee had been found a most useful auxiliary to the Sooiety at Home. He thought the matter might be referred to the Executive Committee.

Mr.Beado moved a resolution to the effeot that the subjeot should be referred to the Exeoutive Committee, to report at the next .meeting. The motion was carried.

The Hon Sec said thab something might be done to secure the more active co-operation of the various children's societies, such as Bands of Hope. He thought that any Society paying a subscription should be considered, as it were, a member. An inducement might be given to them in the Bhape of extra papers. Mr Beade did not see how a colleotire body oould be a member of the Society, as it could have no voice in the proceedings. The Bey T. FlavelL said that in England there were what were called Humanity Guilds, whioh aided the Central Society. Mr Lane did not think there would be any difficulty. Clubs could simply pay a certain sum, and receive a certain number of illustrated papers in return. The question of voting need not come up at all. Mr Jones suggested that the Secretary of the Societies might vote at the meetings of the Central Sooiety. It was finally resolved, on the motion of the Bey T. Flavell— " That youog people's ■ooieties be invited to assist this Society. That suoh societies nhould be entitled to two copies of the Animal World for each annual payment of 10a 6d made by them." Professor Haslam and Mr C. Kiver were elected members of the Committee.

The Secretary laid on the table a book for receiving informations and suggestions with regard to various matters of interest to the Sooiety. He thought it would bo a good thing if permission could bo obtained to plaoe it in the publio office at the City Council Chambers. If that permission were obtained an advertisement could be inserted in the papers calling attention to the book, which could be produced at the meetings of the Committee. i

The suggestions of the Secretary were adopted. The rules, as drawn up by the Committee appointed for the purpose, were read. On the motion of the Bey H. Williams, the rules, as read, wero adopted. A sohedule of duties of the inspectors was aho read and adopted. After passing a few small accounts, the meeting adjourned.
