A MARVELLOUS STORY.
The following story, which comes from San Francisco, is published in a New York paper with the heading—" Bather Hard to ' Take In' " :—Charles Dall and Harry Oolton, members of thu Olympic Club, were out ducks': ooting. While trying to cross one of the sloughs at low tide Harry sank in the soft mud up to his Hrm-pits. It was impossible for Cbarles to assist him, through fear of sinking also. The tide was rapidly coming in; no time was to be lost, for in 20 minutes it would be over Harry's head. On the bank was a piece of gas-pipe about sft long. This Mr Dall managed to got to Harry, who, stuck in the mud, put it to his mouth, and when the tide raised over his head breathed through it for four hours while Oharley wont for help to the drawbridge six miles away. He returned with ropes, and when the tide receded again, rescued his friend, who was almost dead from exhaustion.
