LYTTELTON HARBOUR BOARD.
The following is the text of the Bill introduced into Parliament by Mr E. G. Wright :— Be it enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of tbe same, as follows : — 1. The short title of this Aot is "The Ljttelton Harbour Board Act, 1882." 2. This Aot shall be deemed to bo a special Act within the meaning of " Tho Harbours Act, 1878," whioh Act and all Acts amending the same Bhall be incorporated with this Act. In this Act, if not inconsistent with the context— " Harbour " means the Harbour of Lyttelton as defined at the time of the coming into operation of this Act, or as it may be dofined under " The Harbours Act, 1878," or auy Act amending the same. "Board" means the Harbour Board constituted under the provisions of this Act. " The said Act " moans "Ihe Harbours Act, 1878," and all Acts amending the same. " Chamber of Commerce " means the presont association in the City of Ohristohuroh, known as the Ohristchurch Chamber of Commerce. 4. A Board is hereby constituted under the said Aot for the Harbour of Lyttelton, and such Board shall consist of thirteen members, of whom six shall form a quorum. 5. The Board shall be constituted as follows : — (1) Two members to be appointed by the Governor j (2) the Mayor for the time being of tho Borough of Lyttelton ; (3) one member to be elected by the ratepayers of the Borough of Lyttelton j (4) two members to be elected by the Ohriatohurch Chamber of Commerce from among the members thereof ; (5) two members to be elected by the ratepayers of the city of Ohristohuroh j (6) one member to be elected by the ratepayers of the Borough of Sydenham ; (7) two members to be elected by the Oounoil of the County of Selwyn; '(B) one member to be elected by the Council of the County of Ashley:; (9) one member to bs elected by the Council of the County of Ashburton. 6. The members of the Board to be appointed by tho Governor may be appointed at any time after the coming into operation of this Act, and they shall hold office for a period of two years, to be computed from the first day of July, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-two. 7. The first election of the elective members Bhall be held on the 'first Wednesday in the month of October, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-two, in manner provided by the said Act ; and such election shall be in substitution of the ordinary biennial election required to be held in February next under the said Act. 8. The elective members of the Board 'Shall come into dffioo on their election, and shall hold office from the time of their election until the biennial election of members of tho Board, to be held in February, in the year one thousand eight hundred and eightyfive. 9. The now existing Lyttelton Harbour Board shall cease to hold office on the coming into offioe of the eleoted members of the Board under this Act. 10. All provisions of any Act whioh may be repugnant to or in contradiction of this Act are hereby repealed.
